In 2009, The WURC will strengthen civil society in small cities of Ukraine
The purpose of our new project "Local NGO Counter-Crisis and Sustainability Management in the West of Ukraine " is to strengthen sustainability of NGOs and assist them to be effective under conditions of economic instability. The WURC will conduct five three-day training sessions for 10 -12 selected NGOs from three Western oblasts of Ukraine (Lviv, Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk) that work in villages and small towns. The NGO leaders will learn how not to be dependent on international donors and how to develop and implement programs in small communities. The training program will include strategic and -operational planning, coping with organizational and community change, maintaining economic sustainability through community mobilization and social enterprise, local resource and fund raising, human resource and volunteer management in crisis, and project management in the changing economy. To learn about the best local practices of strengthening NGO sustainability, the WURC will organize a study tour for the training participants and publish brochure and eight issues of newsletter. The project will be concluded with a final meeting. The project will start on May 15, 2009 and finish before January 15, 2010. The funding share of the U.S. Embassy is USD 12 553.00.
