Ukraine intensifies fight against illegal migration

In Ukraine, the Law on regulation of migration processes was recently enacted and thus the responsibility for illegal migration action has increased, as the Digest of the International Organization for Migration informs.

In particular, foreigners and persons without citizenship may be denied entry to Ukraine if they are: reasonably suspected of being carriers of infectious and other (included in the special list MoH) diseases, if they intend to enter the territory of Ukraine with a transit visa, but they have no documents and no paid ticket for entry into the destination country; if there is evidence of failure of such persons’ financial obligations to Ukraine, as well as in cases where such persons have no substantial assets of their own financial support both during their intended stay in Ukraine and for their return to the country of origin. Persons who were arrested while attempting to illegally cross the border, will be banned from entering Ukraine for 10 years. Law also defines the grounds for deportation of foreigners, and determined that person can not be deported if in the country of origin, such person suffers from tortures and ill-treatment. The changes also affected the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offences. Analysts say that overall changes in the relevant articles of these codes indicate the increased responsibility in the field of illegal migration.
